Lesson Plan
Students love to do MadLibs®. Besides being great fun, they are an excellent way to reinforce students' knowledge of the parts of speech.
Have you seen the online cousin to the popular MadLibs pads? If not, take a look at the Wacky Web Tales® page on Houghton Mifflin's eduplace.com Web site. There you can show students how to have fun creating their own "wacky tales" during free time or rainy-day recesses.
After students are familiar with the format for working these parts-of-speech tall tales, why not have them write tall tales of their own? They can do it as a class activity. Choose the best ones and create a class book of fill-in-the-blank tales.
Older students will enjoy writing fun tales for younger students to fill in and read!
And, who knows? Students might submit their tale to eduplace.com and see it published on the Wacky Web Tales page!
Assessment
Students will correctly mimic the format of the fill-in-the-blank tales as they create their own. They will identify the parts of speech that fit into the "blanks" in their tales.
